Getting Ready For Fall

I know the last thing anyone wants to think about is cold weather.  I, for one, am not a big fan of being cold and wet.   One nice thing about the fall is sweaters season.  I do like wearing my knitwear.

We have been busy getting ready for the fall here at the Mill.  A special shout out to Tom and Sonja for the great selection of Columbia and Merino fleeces.  We have a large majority of it spun into yarn and have begun making our winter selection of socks. I have begun loading them on the website but it is slow going. Right now, we have a large selection of natural colors.  Our yarn should be returning from the dye house within the next few days.  Then we will begin adding to the patterns we made earlier this year.

For those of you who requested we keep the legwarmers, we will but in limited styles and quantity.  Legwarmers and the boot toppers just wasn't a look that lasted very long.

Lastly, we are running the "Intro To Weaving" class again.  It will begin Friday, September 23, 2016 at 2 pm.  There are still 3 spaces available.  Please call or email us in advance so we reserve a loom for you.

For those who asked. . . Yes, I write the rhymes.  Sometimes I channel Dr. Seuss.  Whoa! I feel him taking over now . . .

I sit at the loom and what do I see
Cloth transforming in front of me
I try to fight it without success
I have too many projects, way in excess

I'll finish my WIPs and then buy yarn
Who am I kidding, I'm not weaving with Plarn
It's a vicious cycle this weaving thing
A small price to pay for the joy it brings

Toia has an intense interest in Indigenous Weave Structures.  She received the title Master Ashante Kente Weaver from Adamwomase, Ghana, West Africa in 2009.  At that time, she was the only female, American weaver to achieve the title.  She learned to weave Taanko from a Maori tribe of New Zealand.  It is her goal to help preserve the indigenous structures through video and woven cloth.
She is also an Adjunct Professor of Knitwear and Accessory Design at Columbus College of Art & Design.
